Consistency

Consistency

Consistent typography builds visual coherence, making inter-faces feel professional and trustworthy, reinforcing user confidence.

Emotional

Emotional

04

Typography evokes emotions, engaging users and enhancing interaction, making experiences more memorable and impactful.

Font selection

While some typefaces can be interchangeable, others have specific

use cases. In the first experiment for the construction company, I used a playful decorative typeface, which fails to convey

seriousness and legibility for that industry.

In the second experiment, I demonstrated that same typeface with a game store. In this case, the playful and decorative nature of the font makes it a perfect fit for the brand.

Competitive analysis

Working in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, I noticed their seamless font selection process. Prioritizing style first allows for a smoother, more efficient workflow that enhances the overall design experience.

01

Card sorting

02

I conducted a card sorting exercise with two participants, showing that increasing font options from 3 to 6 without categorization signifi-cantly increased task difficulty and time spent on associations.

Brand identity

03

Participants mentioned that matching three fonts was easy, but with 6 options, the task became harder. They found the lack of categories increased difficulty
and time spent deciding.

Emotional

Typography evokes emotions, engaging users and enhancing interaction, making experiences more memorable and impactful.

Brand identity

01

Typography reflects a brand's personality, creating immediate associations and setting the tone—whether modern, luxurious, or trustworthy—strengthening
emotional connections.

User experience

02

Well-chosen fonts enhance readability, guide navigation, and reduce cognitive load, creating a clearer, more intuitive user experience.

Problem

Designers face a major hurdle with Figma's typography feature, which lacks a way to filter fonts by style. Scrolling through 1,500+ fonts, including hundreds of variations, becomes a time-consuming and frustrating process.

01

Solution

02

To address this issue, I designed a dropdown feature for easy typeface categorization. This solution streamlines font selection, saving designers time and enabling faster project turnaround.

Decision paralysis

01

Studies indicate that when individuals are presented with more

options, decision-making becomes more challenging. For instance,

participants spent 25% more time choosing among 6 options than

when only 3 were available, impacting overall productivity.

Data proven

According to a survey by Envato Tuts+, 56% of designers spend 1 to

3 hours choosing a font. Additionally, Iyengar and Lepper's 2000

study in Psychological Science highlights that increased options can

lead to decision fatigue.
